Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC). Established as a public corporation by Act of Parliament No. 19 of 1993, TPC came into operation in January 1994.Tanzania Posts Corporation is wholly Government-owned, and is designated as the public postal operator. The TPC Board of Directors – whose Chairman is appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and whose members are appointed by the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology – enjoys autonomy in decision-making and runs the organi-zation along modern commercial lines. The TPC Chief Executive Officer – the Postmaster General – is appointed by the President upon recommendation by the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the overall management of the organization. The principle functions of Tanzania Posts Corporation are: – providing a postal (letter and parcel post) service in Tanzania and with other countries; – providing efficient postal financial services to meet industry, trade and savings needs; – providing agency services for the government and commercial sectors.
